Sustainable Development Organization (SDO) has arranged a Walk in Tehsil Authmuqam District Neelum on June 19, 2012 on Awareness in Transparency and Accountability in Education Budget. A large number of participants from Education Department, Civil Society, Teachers and students joined the seminar. The Walk has started from Girls High School Authmuqam. It continues to the main bazar of Authmuqam, while Mr. Zia Arif Chughtai (District Program Manger) NCHD and Mr. Jalaluddin (DDEO) have leaded the walk. At ending of walk Mr. Khurram Jamal Shahid (Chief Executive of SDO) has given briefing about the Walk’s background and Objectives. He insisted the educationist to get the budget copies every year and they should be well aware about the allocated budget for spending and its optimum utilization. He mentioned that mostly teachers and school heads don’t get the budget copies so the allocated un-sufficient budget is also lapsed. He has further discussed to make such strategy and mechanism which encourage the timely disbursement of funds. Further he mentioned that the Media persons from Neelum never tried to highlight the education issues, so they have to play their role. He further added that government should make budget based at the research and previous statistics. A coordination meeting is held after the walk for future collaboration of Education Department, NCHD and other stake holders to improve the education system, and bring the transparency in Education Budget through social accountability.
